Body and Mind is so proud to have Cheryl Joelson preforming at our Body and Mind Wellness Day at the Kloof Country Club on the 27th July.
Cheryl Engel is a singer/songwriter. She started singing and performing from the age of 9 and spent several years singing in studio as a session singer. Cheryl draws on her life experiences to craft poetry that forms the lyrical basis of her heartfelt and memorable songs, her style of music can be described as folk/rock with hints of country. Her style has been compared with that of Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, Civil Wars, Cranberries and Taylor Swift.
The South African Duo Connecting Stars was officially launched by Cheryl in 2012, creating her own brand of Folk Rock. Since 2013, Connecting Stars have gained success locally as well as abroad, with their debut South African single “Pieces” receiving radio play across the country, and their song “Stuck” achieving the rare feat of charting on the US Billboard AC chart, peaking at #28. This was followed by two tours of the United States, and culminated in Cheryl winning the Songwriter of the Year Award at the Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards. Cheryl also collaborated with Headliner and Rasadon, the founding members of the multi-grammy award winning band “Arrested Development” and wrote a song together called “A Change is Coming”.
Cheryl recently performed with Nibs Van Der Spuy at his album launch, Natalia and has performed with Tresor, Riziky and John Ellis. On the 22nd August she will be teaming up with the esteemed Rowan Stuart for his show at Barnyard and on the 16th September she will collaborate with Chico Muya for his EP launch at the Jazzy Rainbow.
Cheryl is establishing herself as a solo artist, she plans to release her solo album next year and perform at local festivals in the near future.
